List Turns in Strong Performance to Lead Wildcats at Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate

April 7, 2008

Complete Results

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Freshman Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) shot even par for the weekend and led Villanova at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club. List tied for 12th in a field of 85 golfers in the tournament with rounds of 71-73=144 (E) to earn team medalist honors. As a team, the Wildcats posted team scores of 302-301=603 (+27) to finish 14th out of 15 teams.

List opened the weekend with a round of 71 (-1) and was tied for third place in the field after Friday's round. After a cancellation of play on Saturday due to heavy rain, he came back with a 73 on Sunday to break for a tournament for the first time this season. His round of 71 in the first round marked the second straight event he posted at least one round under par.

The shortening of the tournament to just two rounds made for a crowded group of individual results. Junior Doug Stadler (Wexford, Pa.) finished second on the team and tied for 43rd overall, though his two-round score of 77-73=150 (+6) was just six strokes behind List and 12 strokes off the lead.

Freshman Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) and junior Andrew Alexander (Rochester, Minn.) placed in ties for 64th place and 72nd place, respectively. Casey posted scores of 76-78=154 and Alexander came in with marks of 78-77=155. Sophomore Michael Gross (Clarks Green, Pa.) had the drop score in both rounds and finished the weekend with scores of 86-84=170.

Villanova posted its two lowest team scores of the spring with their rounds of 302 and 301 in the tournament. The Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate is the fourth tournament the Wildcats played in this spring.

St. John's won the team title for the weekend with a score of 572 (-4) that beat out Newberry College by 10 strokes. Ben Lown of Newberry and Keegan Bradley of St. John's tied for the individual lead with scores of 138 (-6). The top 11 players in the field all had scores below par for the weekend at the par-72, 7,102-yard course.

The Wildcats play in the Princeton Invitational this Friday and Saturday at the Princeton Golf Course.
