'Cats Spring Offers Promising Signs
May 1, 2008
VILLANOVA, Pa. - At a time on the calendar where the climate outside offers hints of what's to come, new Villanova head men's soccer coach Tom Carlin saw much to look forward to in the recently completed spring campaign that saw the `Cats finish with a 5-1-1 record.
"We put a strong emphasis this spring on daily continual improvement and individual player development and we feel confident that we can say mission accomplished," states Carlin. "The players worked extremely hard through a difficult spring regime and they have a ton of confidence and positive energy going into the summer work-outs."
The spring session began with a 3-0 victory over La Salle. Villanova then traveled to Bucknell for a tournament where it played three 50-minute games. A Miles Harrison goal lifted the `'Cats past the Bison 1-0; scores from Anthony Griffith, Adam Amann and Keith Heinold helped spark a 3-1 triumph over St. Francis and they completed the day with a 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg.
Mike Seamon finished a play that started with passes from Joe Taylor and Sean Mergenthal to help Villanova tie Temple at 1. Seamon (goal) and Taylor (assist) also hooked up for the only tally in a 1-1 tie against Lehigh before the `Cats closed out the spring session with a 1-0 loss at Monmouth.
