Bobby Curtis Finishes Fourth in 3000 Meters National Championship

March 15, 2008

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Bobby Curtis (Louisville, Ky.) earned All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meters at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championship on Saturday night at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Curtis placed fourth in the field of 16 runners with a time of 8:02.79 to earn All-America honors for the second time in the academic year. He also finished fourth in the national championship race in cross country this past fall.

On Saturday night Curtis entered the race as the top seed and posted a time that was slightly faster than his winning time at the BIG EAST Championships last month. He finished less than two seconds off the winning pace of 8:00.79 set by Kyle Alcorn of Arizona State.

Georgetown's Andrew Bumbalough (8:02.22) and Kyle Perry of BYU (8:02.63) rounded out the top three in front of Curtis. Three other entries from BIG EAST schools came in behind Curtis, including a pair of Notre Dame runners and one competitor from Georgetown. Curtis earned five points for the Wildcats in the team standings.

The close of this weekend's national championship meet marks the end of the indoor season. The outdoor season begins with the Raleigh Relays on March 28-29 in North Carolina.
