Wuzzardo Nets Two Goals in 5-2 Win Over Lehigh

Sept. 23, 2007

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Lauren Wuzzardo netted two goals to lead Villanova to its fourth consecutive win with a 5-2 victory over Lehigh at the Ulrich Sports Complex in Bethlehem, Pa. earlier this afternoon. Wuzzardo's goals marked the fifth and sixth of her rookie campaign and helped the Wildcats improve to 6-2 on the season, 2-0 in BIG EAST play.

Despite falling behind in the first five minutes of the contest, Villanova answered back by taking advantage of two offensive corners with Wuzzardo contributing to both. Fellow freshman Ally Smith notched her first career goal as a Wildcat when she collected a pass from Wuzzardo to tie the score at 1-1. Wuzzardo then converted a penalty corner to post a goal of her own and give the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage over the Mountain Hawks at the 40:45 minute mark.

A mere five minutes later, Lehigh managed to knot the game at two off a goal by Kalynn Davies. However, that was as close as the Mountain Hawks would come to victory. The Wildcats went on to score three unanswered goals to completely overpower Lehigh and secure the win in the remaining 16 minutes of play.

Junior Allison Boris and sophomore Emily Donaldson scored goals within four minutes of each other to extend Villanova's lead to 4-2. Wuzzardo then ended the game much like she started it. The rookie closed out the scoring as she hit the back of the cage off a penalty corner with nine minutes left in the game to make the final score 5-2.

After playing mostly road games to start the season, Villanova returns home this Wednesday, Sept. 26 when they host West Chester University at 4 p.m.
