Second Half Flurry Lifts Lehigh Past 'Cats 16-5

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lauren Dykstra scored six goals to help pace Lehigh (9-6)to a 16-5 victory over Villanova (4-10) in a women's lacrosse match played here on Tuesday evening.

Freshman Rachael Ponge scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats on the night. Junior Katie Stone, sophomore Samantha McKillip and freshman Maggie Breslin also scored goals for the Wildcats.

Although the Mountain Hawks owned the advantage in scoring opporunities in the first half, outshooting the 'Cats 22-5. But freshman goalie Maggie Langan made 11 saves in the half to help keep Villanova close.

Sara MacIntyre scored one minute and one second into the start of the second half to give the Mountain Hawks a 5-3 lead. But Ponge picked up her second goal of the evening less than 60 seconds later to pull Villanova back within 5-4.

However, Lehigh reeled off the game's next six goals. Three of those came off the stick of Dykstra to help Lehigh open up an 11-4 advantage. Stone scored on a free position shot at 22:45 to slice the lead to 11-5 before the Mountain Hawks finished the contest by scoring the game's final five goals.

Lehigh owned a 46-11 edge in shots for the evening.Kelsey Farris made four saves in net for the Mountain Hawks while Langan stopped 15 shots before giving way to Cassie Eure, who made three more saves.
