Wildcats Get Shutout in Pair of Losses at Altamonte Springs Tournament

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Villanova (4-5) suffered a pair of shutout losses on the final day of the Altamonte Springs Tournament, losing to Vermont by a score of 2-0 and Florida A&M by a 5-0 count on Sunday. The Wildcats lost four of the five games played at the tournament during the weekend.

In the morning game against Vermont, junior Laura Determan (San Diego, Calif.) pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts but took the loss due to a pair of unearned runs that scored in the first inning. Aimee Kern walked with the bases loaded and Laura Stagliano bounced into a fielder's choice that scored the second run.

The Wildcats outhit the Catamounts 5-4 but stranded 11 runners on base and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Sophomore Jess O'Boyle (Verona, N.J.) was 3-for-3 and junior Meghan Morese (Laguna Hills, Calif.) drew three walks for Villanova.

Determan went six innings and allowed four hits, two unearned runs and six walks to go along with her nine strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, the Wildcats were defeated 5-0 by Florida A&M. The Rattlers had previously fallen to Villanova 8-0 one day earlier in the tournament.
