Wildcats Drop First Game in Doubleheader

March 30, 2008

Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova softball team dropped the first game in a doubleheader to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Softball field. The Wildcats fall to 7-12 overall and 0-3 in BIG EAST play.

The Orange got on the board first with after a walk turned into a run in the top of the second inning. Syracuse repeated in the third inning with a solo homerun from Amy Kelley.

Both teams were quiet until the Orange picked up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, but left one runner on base.

The Villanova offense rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning as senior Carolyn Brown doubled with one out and scored on a single from senior Jessica Curtis, who reached second base on a throwing error from the Orange. The Wildcats would leave one runner on base to end the inning and trail Syracuse 4-1.

Junior Meghan Morese had a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, and sophomore Danielle Maricle followed with a single of her own, but both runners would be stranded as VU's late rally was not enough to overcome Syracuse. The Wildcats fell, 4-1 in the first game.

Brown went 1-for-2 with one run in the first game, while the Wildcats combined for five hits as a team.
