Wildcats Cannot Overcome Early Deficit

April 15, 2008

Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Wildcats turned in four hits in game one of a doubleheader against Penn on Tuesday, but could not overcome a two-run first inning for the Quakers, falling 7-0.

A lead-off walk and intentional walk for the Quakers in the first saw both base runners head home, taking a quick 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats fell behind further in the top of the fourth inning as Penn scored three additional runs, with the first three batters in the inning.

Sophomore Eryn Teague and junior Meghan Morese both hit back-to-back singles in the first inning, but would not be able to reach homeplate.

Senior Jackie Dempsey and Morese notched consecutive singles in the third inning, but the runners would again be stranded.

The Quakers had another successful inning in the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits and they increased the lead.

The Wildcats failed to get another hit as they fell to Penn, 7-0.

Morese went 2-for-3, while Dempsey and Teague each notched a hit for VU.
