Villanova Strikes Early in 4-0 Victory

April 22, 2008

Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - A two-out, two-RBI single to right field from senior Lisa Curran got the Wildcats rolling in the first inning of game one against St. Joe's on Tuesday. Sophomore Danielle Maricle was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and junior Meghan Morese reached base on a fielder's choice, setting up Curran to drive them home. Freshman Becky LaMarca kept the inning going with an RBI single to right field, giving Villanova a 3-0 lead early in the game.

The `Cats kept going in the second inning as Maricle reached base on an error from the Hawks. She then stole second. Senior Jackie Dempsey knocked an RBI triple into right field, sending Maricle home and putting Villanova in front, 4-0.

Villanova had three hits in the third inning, looking for additional runs as Curran and LaMarca singled. Senior Carolyn Brown bunted to reach base, but the inning ended with two Wildcats stranded.

Maricle went 1-for-3 with two runs, while Dempsey connected on 2-of-4 with one run and one RBI. Curran and LaMarca hit 2-for-3 with Brown and junior Natalie Hord each notching one hit.
