VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior catcher Meghan Morese was named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team All-Northeast Region the organization has announced. She is one of just three athletes selected from the BIG EAST.

"I am very proud of Meghan and her accomplishments," head coach Maria DiBernardi said. "She worked very hard to better every aspect of her game this year. Our sport has grown tremendously over the last decade and the quality of the athlete is getting better each year."

This is the first time since 2004 that Villanova has had an athlete selected to the All-Northeast Region softball team.

Morese led the Wildcats with a .352 batting average, connecting on 57 hits. She had 22 runs and 37 RBI's. Morese recorded 12 doubles and 10 homeruns and turned in a .994 fielding percentage with just two errors on the season.

The honor concludes a successful season where Morese was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll twice and tied Villanova's homerun record, smashing 10 this season. As she returns for her senior season this is a record she will surely break.

"It is a great honor to be recognized as one of the top performers in the region/country in your sport. Meghan is in an elite group. I am very happy for her," DiBernardi said.
