Wildcats Finish Seventh in the DMR at the Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Wildcat women finished seventh in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 24. The women crossed the finish line in 11:09.48. Senior Frances Koons was the anchor, running the 1600m leg, where she ran a personal best time of 4:34.6.

Leading off in the 1200m was freshman Ali Smith who ran her leg in 3:28.4. Sophomore Makalia Griffith followed running the 400m in 55.0.

Senior Akilah Vargas was third with the 800m leg where she passed off the baton in 2:11.5

Koons took the baton to run the anchor leg of 1600m where she crossed the finish line in a split of 4:34.6, giving the Wildcats seventh place. Koons' previous personal best was 4:37.2, and she was able to shave just under three seconds off of that time.

Michigan claimed the DMR title finishing in 10:49.58.

The Villanova women will return to the track in the 4x1500m relay beginning at 1:25 p.m. on Friday.

The Wildcat men will make their first appearance at the Penn Relays on Friday in the DMR.
