Northwestern Spring Sports Release #2 in PDF Format EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Galion) of wrestling and Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) of women's swimming as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week. Fox won five matches at the NCAA Championships to capture his first NCAA heavyweight title. In the finals, Fox survived a cut head, bloody nose and broken headgear to top second-seeded J.D. Bergman of Ohio State in a second sudden victory period, 4-2. Fox became the eighth champion in program history and first heavyweight champion since 1932. He gave NU an individual title in back-to-back seasons for the second time in school history. Through the entire tournament, Fox never surrendered more than two points, was only taken down once and recorded a pin and technical fall on his way to the title. Hupman earned six All-America honors at the NCAA Championships to lead Northwestern to a 19th-place team finish, its best since 2000. Hupman won the first first-team All-America award of her career with an eighth-place finish in the 200 free while coming in 12th in the 100 free and 15th in the 50 free to become an honorable-mention All-American in those events. Hupman also was a member of the 200 free, 400 free and 800 free relays, all of which earned honorable mention All-America status. For the complete release, click the .pdf link above. |
