SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Northwestern is in sixth place in the 16-team field following the first two rounds of the Western Intercollegiate Wednesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Wildcats combined for a 28-over 588 in the first two rounds on the par-70, 6,511-yard course. NU is just three shots out of third place while leading seventh-place UC Santa Barbara by three shots. Michigan State leads the tournament with a 7-over 284 through two rounds. After the first round, Northwestern was tied with Colorado for fifth place overall with a 14-over 294. Both teams were one shot behind UC Santa Barbara in fourth and two shots in back of San Jose State in third. Senior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) opened day one with a first-round score of 2-over 72, shooting identical nines of 36. He followed that up with a 4-over 74 in the second round, with a double-bogey six on the 17th hole preventing matching rounds of 72 Wednesday. He is in 10th place overall entering the final round with his 6-over 146. Freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) turned in identical rounds of 4-over 74 to finish the day in 20th place with an 8-over 148. On the front nine during round two, he made three birdies to card a 1-under 34. Sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) recovered from a first-round 9-over 79 with a 2-over 72 in round two to enter the final round in 35th place in the standings with an 11-over 151. Senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) fired a 1-under 69 in the opening round which included three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. He was tied for third in the individual standings following the round. He then had a rough back nine in round two, going 36-46 to shoot a 12-over 82 and finish the day tied with Lipsky in 35th place at 11-over 151. Freshman Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) rounded out Northwestern's five-man team in the event with a two-round score of 13-over 153. He shot a 9-over 79 in the first round before carding a 4-over 74 in a second round that featured five birdies.
