EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman Amy Jaeschke (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) has been named to the 2007-08 All-Big Ten Team All-Freshman Team, it was announced Monday. She was an honorable mention selection by the conference's media members. Jaeschke becomes the third Wildcat to earn an All-Big Ten honor in as many years, following A.J. Glasauer (2006-07) and Ifeoma Okonkwo (2005-06).

Jaeschke becomes just the second freshman in Wildcat history to garner All-Freshman honors, as Sarah Kwasinski was named to the All-Freshman team in 2002.

Jaeschke is currently leading the team in points (13.6), rebounds (6.8) and blocks (51). Her 51 blocks ties her for fourth with Kwasinski (2002-03) on Northwestern's all-time single-season blocks list, despite sitting out nine games due to injury. She has led NU in scoring 12 times her 21 games played and has been the Wildcats' leading rebounder on 10 occasions.

This year's season-highs for the freshman standout include 26 points against Indiana and Michigan State, 11 rebounds against co-Big Ten champs Iowa and five blocks versus Purdue.

Sophomore captain Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill./Carmel/Syracuse) received Northwestern's Sportsmanship Award.

The 11th-seeded 'Cats take on sixth-seeded Indiana at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT Thursday in the opening round of the 2008 Big Ten Tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
