DETROIT, Mich. - Northwestern's women's fencing team had 10 individuals compete Sunday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Detroit.

Christa French (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) was the Wildcats' top individual finisher, placing second in the epee. She is expected to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Championships.

Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) is also expected to qualify for the NCAA meet after placing fourth in the foil. NU awaits the announcement Tuesday's NCAA field, with perhaps three more individuals in line for at-large selections.

Natalie Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Presentation) in the foil, Joanna Niklinska (Granger, Ind./Penn) in the epee and Adrienne Shon (San Diego, Calif./The Bishop's School) are all potential NCAA selections. Nemecek placed eighth and Wang and Shon both finished ninth at Sunday's regional.
