COLUMBUS, Ohio - Northwestern earned a seventh-place finish in the women's competition at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Ohio State University. Junior Sam Nemecek earned the Wildcats' top finish, placing eighth in the foil to earn the third All-America honor of her career.

NU finished with 45 team points. Ohio State (101) edged out Notre Dame (98) for the top finish. Columbia was third, followed by St. John's, Penn State, Harvard and the Wildcats.

In addition to Nemecek, senior Natalie Wang also competed in the foil, placing 20th.

In the epee, sophomore Christa French, who was an All-American a year ago, followed up her sixth-place finish from last season by taking 10th. Classmate Joanna Niklinska turned in a 12th-place standing in her first NCAA appearance.

The Wildcats did not have any individuals compete in the sabre.
