2007-08 NCAA Certification

March 27, 2008

Since September 2007 Ohio University has been undertaking its year-long, campus-wide effort to study its athletics program as part of the NCAA Division I athletics certification process which requires recertification every ten years.  The process for NCAA Division I certification entails an institutional self-study report which specifically covers the areas of (1) academic integrity, (2) governance and commitment to rules compliance, and (3) commitment to equity and student-athlete well-being.

The self-study is intended to benefit OHIO by providing an opportunity to increase awareness of intercollegiate athletics campus-wide, to affirm the positive aspects of intercollegiate athletics, and to resolve any problems of the athletics program that are identified during the self-study process.

As members of the campus community, you have the opportunity to provide input into our self-study report at either or both of the following open forums:

Tuesday, April 8, 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Baker University Center 240

Thursday, April 10, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Baker University Center 242

In order to participate in the open forums, please click here and review the draft certification report prior to attending the open forums.  Only questions and issues you identify in the draft report will be addressed by members of the Self-Study Steering Committee chaired by Vice President for Student Affairs Kent Smith.

The completed self-study report must be submitted May 1, 2008 to the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification, which will ultimately make the decision regarding Ohio University's certification status.  A final determination is expected February 2009.
