Swain Resigns Post as "Voice of the Bobcats"

June 30, 2008

ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio's "Voice of the Bobcats" Warren Swain resigned his position Monday to accept a play-by-play position with Results Radio in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

"I certainly was appreciative of being able to come to Ohio University to be the Voice of the Bobcats," said Swain. "The opportunity that arose for me to move closer to my family and continue pursuing my love of play-by-play was just too good to pass up. However, there are really tremendous people here at Ohio University that have been very good to me and I'll never forget that."

Swain got his start in collegiate athletics broadcasting in 1972 calling Iowa State football and basketball for KMA Radio in Shenandoah, Iowa.

"We appreciate the excellence in service provided by Warren," said Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus. "We wish him the very best in his desire to get closer to family and in his future professional pursuits."

From Iowa State, Swain then became the voice of the Oregon Ducks. Following three years in Eugene, Swain had his first stint in Des Moines, Iowa as the sports director at KRNT and voice of the Drake Bulldogs from 1983-85. He then spent 11 seasons as sports director at WINA and play-by-play voice of the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville. Swain followed the Virginia job with six years behind the microphone for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1996-2002 before going back to Drake for three years.

A graduate of the Drake University School of Journalism, Swain has been named the Iowa, Oregon, Virginia and Nebraska "Sportscaster of the Year" during his career, including the Virginia award six times.

A national search for the position will begin immediately.
