CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ohio track and field team compiled 56.5 team points en route to a sixth place finish out of 12 teams at the outdoor All-Ohio Championships hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium.

Akron took first at the event with 187.33 team points with the host Bearcats following the Zips in second place with 134 team points. Taking third was the Miami RedHawks with 113.83 team points and Kent State in fourth with 94 points. In front of the Bobcats in fifth was Findlay with 61 team points.

Once again the Bobcats scored the bulk of their points in field events with the throwers and jumpers combining to score 39.5 of Ohio's team points total of 56.5. Bahiyjaui Allen (Sylvania, Ohio), Jessie Tanner (Newark, Ohio) and Brittany Vinson (Amelia, Ohio) each placed in two events.

Allen took fourth in the shot put and seventh in the discus and her mark of 48 feet, 10.25 inches in the shot put eclipsed her outdoor season best by more than 14 inches. Her previous best, 47 feet, 5.75 inches, came at the Southern Cup, the first meet of the season. Allen's 143 foot, two inch throw in the discus on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships was the third best by a Bobcat so far in the outdoor season.

Tanner placed in both the discus and javelin, with her throw of 122 feet, eight inches in the javelin earning her fifth place. The throw was Ohio's third longest so far this season.

Melissa Gressick (Lancaster, Ohio) placed in the javelin alongside Tanner, finishing one spot behind in sixth with a throw of 117 feet, four inches.

Vinson recorded a seventh place finish in both the triple jump and long jump. Her leap of 18 feet, 4.25 inches in the long jump was the best this season for the Bobcats and her mark of 34 feet, 4.25 inches in the triple jump was good for fourth best by a Bobcat in the '08 outdoor campaign.

Joining Vinson as a placewinner in the triple jump was Kristi Sturges (Parma, Ohio), who finished two spots ahead of her teammate, taking fifth place with a jump of 36 feet, nine inches. Sturges' leap was more than a foot and a half better than the previous 2008 Bobcat outdoor-season best of 35 feet, 1.25 inches.

The highest place earned by Ohio at the All-Ohio Championships was Carime Reinhart's (Boscom, Ohio) second place showing in the 5,000 meters. The senior crossed the finish line in 17:14.43, exactly seven seconds faster than her time two weekends prior at the Duke Invitational, the previous best finish this season.

The Bobcats placed multiple student-athletes in four events, including the discus, javelin, triple jump and steeplechase.

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Celia Struble (Vandalia, Ohio) and Jenielle Hunt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished tied for fourth with identical times of 11:31.16. The finish by both Bobcats was more than 55 seconds faster than the previous Ohio best in the steeplechase for the outdoor season.

In the high jump, Cathy Udeani (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) placed for the Bobcats with her leap of five feet, five inches earning her fifth place. Also taking fifth was Emily Amendola (Beach City, Ohio) in the hammer throw with a toss of 170 feet, six inches. Christen Bosch (Rockbridge, Ohio) also earned a fifth place showing in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 11 feet, 7.75 inches. Bosch's and the Bobcats' previous season-high was 10 feet, 11.75 inches.

Rachel Beakas (Waterville, Ohio) took sixth place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 38:55.01. That finish was good for second best by a Bobcat this season. Sharon Gase (Plymouth, Ohio) was the final placewinner for Ohio at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:05.71 earning her eighth place in the 400 meter hurdles. Gase shaved just less than a second off her previous season and Bobcats best time in the event.

Ohio will travel again next weekend, heading to the Hillsdale Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. before hosting its first home meet of the season with the Green and White Invite on May 3 at Goldsberry Track.
