The Ohio football squad continued the 2008 spring season with its second practice Friday at Peden Stadium. Below are quotes following the day's practice:

Junior quarterback Boo Jackson

On the competition for the quarterback position:

I don't want it just given to me, I want to compete for it. I think competition makes you perform better because it gives you a chance to shine and raise your game to another level. All our quarterbacks are pretty good so I've got to come to practice ready.

Junior quarterback Theo Scott

On his receiving corps:

I have confidence in the receivers as well as my whole team. It comes back to trust and you gain that by coming out here and working hard. Our receivers are going to get it done this year, I really believe it.

Junior running back Chris Garrett

On his switch to running back this spring:

In high school, I was actually all-state in running back, so making the switch won't be that difficult. I just have to focus on learning our plays and packages at the running back position, but that has come along day-by-day fairly easily.

On whether or not he approached the coaching staff about the move from wideout to running back:

I mentioned it to them, but I think that when they saw my high school tape, they thought I might be able to give a little different look in the backfield.

On Ohio's depth at running back:

I feel like I've had to prove myself every year and, really, all my life so I'm used to it. The best man will win the job.

On his size:

I don't think about how size plays into it, I just think it comes down to who can make plays. Most people think that running backs have to be a certain size, but actually defensive players have a hard time getting a hit on me because I'm low to the ground.

On his 2007 season:

I went through a bit of a slump. I can look back on it and know that I really don't want to have that type of season again. I broke my hand during the Virginia Tech game so I dealt with that the rest of the year. Now that it is healthy, I'm looking to get back on track and have an even better year than my freshman (2006) year.

On being more of a factor in the offense:

I felt comfortable at the receiver spot, but I feel more comfortable in the backfield because I played it all my life basically. I'm just ready to make plays, that's all.

On his durability:

I think I'll be ok because I work out very hard in the weight room and Coach Sano (Director of Strength and Conditioning) really pushes me. I just put all my energy into lifting weights because I know that with my size, I have to be durable.
