Redshirt freshman Brian Sweeney (Beaver Falls, Pa.) went 4-6 for 61 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Robbie Spencer (Marietta, Ohio) down the sideline. Defensively, Fletcher also racked up a team-high seven tackles in addition to his two picks, while sophomore linebacker Chad Clemens (Dayton, Ohio) had six stops. The defense amassed seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss on the afternoon with two sacks coming from sophomore Darnell Harris (Pickerington, Ohio).

Ohio will open its 2008 campaign at Wyoming on Aug. 30.

Head Coach Frank Solich

On the spring:

Theo (Scott) had a very, very good spring and I think he wanted to show that today and maybe pressed a little, but he came around. Boo (Jackson) threw for a lot of yards and Brandon (Jones) completed some passes. The defense was hampered a little bit by the injuries that it sustained throughout the spring and that's made it difficult to get any type of continuity. However, they came up with some big plays, especially Donovan Fletcher...so there were some good individual performances out there.

On the turnovers:

That's usually how it works to a degree in the spring because you just have so many people handling the ball. In a regular season game, everyone doesn't play. In the spring, we try to get everybody a decent number of reps and anytime you do that, you're going to have some turnovers. That's not something I'm overly concerned about. We've done a good job taking care of the ball this spring.

On Boo Jackson:

He's done an excellent job picking up the system and our system is not that easy, especially from a quarterback standpoint. He did a good job of not letting the play clock get on him and getting the play called in the huddle and getting to the line of scrimmage.

On the quarterback situation:

We're still going to go into the fall expecting those guys to perform at a high level. Theo's got the experience and he's had a good spring so he'll go into fall camp with an edge but that position is not decided. We've got several other positions that way as well, including running back.

On Chris Garrett:

He was very productive today and because we threw the ball as much as we did, the running backs didn't get as many carries as they normally would. I think those guys did a good job of maximizing each play when they had a chance to do something with it.

Sophomore safety Donovan Fletcher

On the scrimmage:

I'm just trying to do what I can to get into the rotation. I just want to show what I can do on the field and hopefully get some playing time this season.

On getting the interceptions:

The past couple of scrimmages, they (the offense) got to us. We just have to focus on limiting mistakes and running the plays correctly.

Redshirt freshman running back Donte Harden:

On his approach:

I'm just trying to stay healthy so I can make it through the season. As far as the four-man rotation goes, we're all friends. Vince (Davidson) was the first person I met on campus so we've been tight ever since. We both congratulate each other and try to go out there and do our best. However, only one of us can have the job so that speaks for itself.

On the spring:

I was very comfortable this spring. Going into my second year with the team, it's like a family now. You know everybody on a personal level so coming in here and playing with these guys wasn't hard at all.

Junior quarterback Boo Jackson:

On the weather:

It felt a little bit like California because it was so warm early this morning. I woke up, saw the sun and started smiling.

On his progress this spring:

I've grown by leaps and bounds. The first couple of days I was bobbling snaps and just looked like a freshman coming out of high school. Then, as the weeks progressed, I caught on very quick and I just feel comfortable now with the offense.

On LaVon Brazill:

This spring, he just looks great. I've had some receivers that could compare to him, but coming out here and seeing his speed and athleticism and how we catches the ball so smooth is something that I haven't seen before.

On what's in store for him after the spring:

I've still got to condition and drop my weight down a little bit. I need to get stronger, continue to get the offense down and become more of a leader. Theo's out there doing his thing so I need to come out and do mine. I take cues from him. I sit back and watch what he does and learn from him because he's ahead of me right now and he's making great plays.

On the competition for quarterback:

Competition is always a good thing because it's not like it's a cut-throat type thing where I'm coming to take his position. Right now, it's just a lovely competition between two friends. We don't have anything against each other or any of the other quarterbacks. We're just here having fun and trying to win the spot.

Sophomore receiver LaVon Brazill

On his development this spring:

I'm just coming out here every day, practicing hard and trying to get my routes more crisp. I was working with Taylor Price and coach Dwayne Dixon after practice and when I screwed up, he kept me afterward to try and get better.

On specifically what he's working on:

I just want to keep my eyes up on the routes, lower my hips, attack the ball and get my speed up.

On what it's like to catch passes from both Jackson and Scott:

It's sort of hard because those two guys are different quarterbacks. Boo is a pocket quarterback but he can also scramble. Theo's a scrambling quarterback that can get you open. You just have to work hard in practice to get to know both guys.
