2008 Wrestling Banquet Team Awards Announced
 

 
 
 

 
Matt Reedy took home the honors for Redshirt of the Year and Highest GPA at the 2008 Wrestling Banquet Team Awards.

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio wrestling team held its 2008 awards banquet on Saturday at the Baker Center and freshman Germane Lindsey took home three of the 11 honors.

Lindsey (Cincinnati, Ohio), who was the lone Bobcat to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in St. Louis earlier this year, won the awards for hardest worker and most wins and also took home the team MVP trophy. Lindsey won a team-high 20 bouts this season.

Freshman Matt Reedy (Hiram, Ohio), who redshirt this season for the Bobcats, took home two awards. He won the redshirt of the year award and the highest GPA honors after recording a 4.0 in his first two quarters at Ohio.

Fellow freshman Tommy Weinkam (Cincinnati, Ohio), another of the Bobcats' redshirts, took home the Highest Winning Percentage awards after compiling a 16-5 record competing with the other redshirting wrestlers at various tournament around the Midwest.

Kent Smith (Bowling Green, Ohio) earned the honors for fastest fall this season, with a pin in 1:35 against Duquesne's Ryan Sula at the Virginia Duals on Jan. 12.

Smith and sophomore Clay Tucker (Martins Ferry, Ohio) were also named the captains for the 2008-09 season. Tucker won a Bobcat-best seven straight matches from Jan. 11 to Feb. 15. He tallied wins against wrestlers from Duquesne, Northern Illinois, NC State, Buffalo, Virginia Tech, Kent State and North Carolina.

Sophomore Kevin Christensen (Springfield, Ohio) was chosen as the most improved on the season. After compiling an 8-15 record at 149 pounds, Christensen won three of four bouts at the MAC Championships on March 8 to take second place.
 

 

Freshman Heath Allen (Bellefontaine, Ohio) took home the Most Courageous award after starting all season at 125 pounds for the Bobcats.

Sophomore Jacob Ison (Batavia, Ohio) captured the Most Pins award after pinning four opponents last season.
