ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Kent State in Mid-American Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field.

The Bobcats dropped to 3-4 in the conference and 15-13 overall, while the Golden Flashes improved to 23-8, 6-1 MAC.

The Bobcats were unable to plate a run in the game, as a strong pitching performance by freshman Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) held the Flashes to just three runs. Wethington pitched a complete game, allowing just one walk out of 29 batters faced. She also had six strikeouts.

Kent State's pitcher Gabrielle Burns pitched a complete game, recorded seven strikeouts and gave up two hits.

Seniors Courtney Waters (Eagle River, Alaska) and Kristen Salvatore (Kirtland, Ohio) each recorded a hit in the game for Ohio.

After both teams went scoreless in the first five innings, Kent State scored three runs in the top of the sixth for the win. A two-RBI home run by Jessica Toocheck put the Flashes on the scoreboard for the first time, and then Jamie Fitzpatrick followed with the game-winning homer at the next at-bat.

Game two of Ohio's two-day series with Kent State is tomorrow at 1 p.m.
