COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team dropped 7-3 and 3-0 decisions to in-state foe Ohio State in a doubleheader Wednesday night in Columbus. Ohio is now 22-23 overall on the season and Ohio State finishes its season 33-22.

The Bobcats opened the day with three runs on two hits in the top of the first inning in game one. With bases loaded and two outs, senior Maureen McKelvey (Stow, Ohio) tripled for only the fourth time in her career to score Courtney Waters (Eagle River, Alaska), Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.) and Kristen Salvatore (Kirtland, Ohio).

Sam Marder led the inning off with a home run for the Buckeyes, making the score 3-1. The Buckeyes then went on a 6-0 scoring spree, posting a run in both the second and third innings, three in the fourth and another in the sixth for the 7-3 win.

Ohio finished the game with three runs, five hits and three errors. Ohio State finished with seven runs, 10 hits and one error.

Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) and Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.) pitched for Ohio. Sauter started the game and pitched the first three innings, allowing four hits and three runs. She also struck out four batters. Saucedo pitched three innings, giving up six hits and four runs. She struck out two. Megan Miller pitched a complete game for the Buckeyes. Miller allowed five hits, three runs, walked one and struck out five.

After five scoreless innings in game two, the Buckeyes hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 3-0 win. The Bobcats had only two hits in the game, while the Buckeyes had nine.
 

 

Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) started the game in the circle for the Bobcats. Wethington pitched five innings before Sauter came in the pitch one. Kim Reeder pitched a complete game for the Buckeyes.

The Bobcats will wrap up the regular season this weekend against Bowling Green and Toledo at the Ohio Softball Field. The `Cats will host the Falcons in a doubleheader on Friday and the Rockets with single games on Saturday and Sunday.
