NORMAN, Okla. --  The 10th-seeded Oklahoma softball team will be hosting the NCAA Norman Regional this weekend softball team (43-12) will be making its 15th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament this Friday as the Sooners were chosen as a No. 10 overall seed and will host a regional in Norman. Arkansas, Tulsa and Oregon will join Oklahoma in the four-team field at the OU Softball Complex this weekend.

The regional (May 16-18) is double-elimination and runs through Sunday at the OU Softball Complex. The winner of the Norman Regional will match up with the winner of the Hempstead Regional between No. 7 Arizona, Hofstra, Long Island and Canisius in the Super Regionals (May 23-25).

"We are so excited for our team and for our fans that we have the opportunity to play in front of our home fans," head coach Patty Gasso said. "Our team worked hard all year to earn and I'm so proud of them for that. Also, we played every team in our four-team regional earlier this season so we are familiar with them."

For the second straight year Oklahoma was selected as one of the top 16 seeds in the country. The NCAA began the new format of seeding 16 different teams and placing them at a different regional three years ago.

The Sooners are one of two Big 12 teams that were seeded nationally as Texas A&M was selected as a No. 5 national seed. Within the Norman Regional, Oklahoma is the top seed followed by Arkansas, Tulsa and Oregon rounding out the field as the fourth overall seed.

Oklahoma is slated to play Oregon in opening round action on at 7:30 p.m. (CST) on Friday, May 16. Arkansas will take on Tulsa in its opening game of the tournament at 5 p.m. (CST) on Friday.
 
The Division I championship provides for a field of 64 teams. The championship will be extended to three weekends of competition. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament. Sixteen teams were seeded and placed at one of the regional sites.

The regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series May 23-25 at eight campus sites.

The remaining eight teams will advance to the WCWS, an eight-team, double-elimination tournament. The championship final will a best-of-three-series.

The WCWS will be conducted May 28-June 4 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

  Ticket Information

The Athletics Ticket Office will begin selling public tickets to the NCAA Softball Regional at 8 am on Monday, May 12. Tickets will be sold as all-session packages until the start of Regional action on Friday, May 16.
 
All-Session Ticket Prices
• $40 - Reserved All-Session
• $25 - General Admission All-Session
• $20 - Youth All-Session (ages 2-12). Children under 2 are admitted free of charge.

As an NCAA event, all OU students will be required to purchase a ticket for entry. Purchase online or call the OU Athletics Ticket Office at at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free (800) 456-GoOU. All advance purchases will be held in will call and will be available for pick-up 24 hours after the order is placed at the OU Athletics Ticket Office on the plaza level of the Asp Avenue Parking Facility.

Once the tournament begins, all tickets must be claimed at the OU Softball Complex. Single-session tickets will be sold based upon availability beginning Friday, May 16 at the OU Softball Complex approximately two hours prior to the first game. Single session prices are as follows: Reserved - $15, General Admission - $10, Youth - $8. However, due to anticipated demand, fans are encouraged to purchase all-session tickets in advance to guarantee their opportunity to take part in the NCAA Regional.
