June 30, 2008 Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University Athletic Director Dr. Jim Jarrett has announced the addition of Kim Smith and Erik Bennett to the Monarchs athletic staff. Smith will serve as the Assistant Director of Compliance and Bennett as an Athletic Academic Advisor. Smith will help oversee all aspects of the compliance office, including the management of NCAA and CAA compliance records for all intercollegiate programs, monitoring the eligibility of current student-athletes and the maintenance of all compliance materials for the athletic department. Smith comes to ODU after spending the past year at the University of Evansville as the Assistant to the Director of Compliance where she assisted with rules knowledge and education, initial and continuing eligibility and academic services. Smith received her bachelor's degree in sports management from Valparaiso in 2001 and obtained her master's in public service administration from Evansville in 2007, while also serving as a graduate assistant swimming coach. A former captain on the University of West Virginia track and cross country teams, Erik Bennett comes to ODU after having spent three years as an academic advisor with the Mountaineers, two as a graduate assistant. There he assisted student-athletes with scheduling and new student orientation, while also working with at risk students and teaching a freshman orientation course. Bennett earned his undergraduate degree in communication studies and his graduate degree in secondary education in 2007 from WVU where he was a Big East honor roll student and all-conference performer in track. |
