NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The ODU Monarchs finished second at the 2008 CNU Icefree 2-on-2. The event, usually a team racing regatta, was changed to fleet racing due to weather conditions and the Monarchs scored a second place effort. Thomas O'Bryan and crew Ashley Pellerito won A division with nine total points in six races.
No races were completed on Saturday as hurricane force winds and thunderstorms stopped the regatta short on day one. On Sunday, though, the wind was good enough to get six complete races in each division.
O'Bryan and Pellerito paced the fleet in A division with nine total points. ODU wrapped up the second place effort with a third place finish in B division. Gillen Elder and John Shockey combined as skipper of the boat as Jennifer Chazanow and Ariel Darrow sailed as crew. The B division group finished with 20 total points.
ODU's 29 points were just seven back of the winning Georgetown team.
