Monarchs In 11th At ICSA Semi-Finals After First Day
April 26, 2008 LONG BEACH, Calif. -- In the inaugural ICSA National Championship Semi-Finals, Old Dominion is in 11th place headed into the second and final day of racing. The Monarchs are two places behind qualifying for the national championship by finishing in the top nine places and just 15 points back. The first warning for racing tomorrow will be at 1:30 p.m. EST. As a team, ODU has 159 total points through the first day for the 11th place effort. USC and South Florida are tied with 144 points for the final two qualifying positions at 8th and 9th place at the regatta. With eight completed races, the Monarchs have been paced by the 9th place effort in A division by sophomore Kyle Rogachenko and junior Alissa Ayres. The pair finished among the top ten boats in the fleet in all but two of the races on Saturday and started the day with a team-high third place finish. With 70 total points on the first day, Rogachenko and Ayres are separated from the top five in A division by just 11 points. In B division, junior skipper Mikey Brown sailed with junior Jaci Finney and sophomore Mike Komar to a 12th place finish with 89 points. Racing is still incredibly tight after 8 races as the B division boat for ODU is just ten points back of the top ten. The Monarchs B division trio struggled early on the first day but put finished with a 6th and a 4th place finish in the final four races of the day. Old Dominion will sail tomorrow for a chance at advancing to the 2008 ICSA National Championship. They must pick up two places and finish among the top nine boats to advance.
