Pair of Lady Monarchs Qualify For National Championship
Sept. 28, 2008 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Two Lady Monarchs qualified for their second consecutive trip to the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship with a win and runner-up finish at the MAISA Singlehanded Championship this weekend. Sophomores Stephanie Roble and Morgan Wilson finished 1-2 in the event and will sail in their second national championships in October. Roble won the event with 23 total points. After just three races on Saturday, the weather only held up long enough on Sunday to get in five on Sunday, for a total of eight completed races. Roble made an excellent push on Sunday, with three wins and a second place finish to give her 23 total points and her first conference title. Her classmate, Morgan Wilson, finished just behind her with 29 points. She won the opening race on Saturday and finished with four thirds and a second in the regatta, good for second and a qualifying position. Junior Katrina Williams just missed her third straight national championship bid by seven points in the shortened regatta, with 56 total points. She won one race and finished with two seconds on the weekend for a sixth place finish. She was just two points out of the top five and just seven back of Sara Watters from St. Mary's and the final qualifying slot. Roble and Wilson will head to Cornell on October 24-26 for the 2008 ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championship. Faye Bennet Memorial Regatta (Women's MAISA Championship) - 9/28/08
