LYNCHBURG, VA-- Senior firstbaseman Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) knocked in three runs while David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.) and Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.) each knocked in two to lead the Monarchs (5-4) to a come-from-behind, 9-7 road win against the Flames of Liberty University (6-3).

Senior righthander Ryan Bergh (Reddick, FL.) came on in the ninth inning to save the game for freshman Daniel Abdalla (Stevensville, MD.). Abdalla pitched five-plus innings of relief allowing only three hits and one run for his first collegiate win.

Liberty took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning. David Burns groundout plated Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) , then Anthony Shawler doubled home Cipolla and Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) to make it 7-6. ODU scored twice more in the top of the eighth as Most doubled home Miles and Cipolla followed with a single to plate Most and give ODU a 9-6 lead.

Jimmy Miles led the Monarchs with four hits, and four runs scored on the day along with two steals. Cipolla, Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Edgar Hernandez (Luguillo, PR.) each had two hits. Burns slammed a homer for the second straight game.
 

 

The Monarchs return home to begin CAA play this weekend with a three-game series against Delaware beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
