Feb. 4, 2008

NORFOLK, Va.--The Old Dominion University Monarchs will host the Bison of Bucknell University of the Patriot League on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at 7 p.m. as part of the O'Reilly Bracketbusters weekend.

Bucknell (9-12, 4-3), under the direction of head coach Pat Flannery were 24-9 in 2004-05, beat Kansas in the NCAA first round, were 27-5 in 2005-06 and defeated Arkansas in the NCAA first round. The Bison were 22-9 last year, and co-Patriot League regular season Champions at 13-1. Flannery's 231 wins at Bucknell is second only to former Bucknell head coach Charlie Woollum (318) who was an ODU assistant when the Monarchs won the 1975 NCAA Div. II National Championship.

Bucknell is led in scoring by 6-1, junior guard Justin Castleberry (12.4 ppg), 6-1, senior guard, John Griffin (12.3 ppg/ 2.8 apg), and Darren Mastropaolo, a 6-8 senior forward (6.6 ppg/3.6 rpg). Bucknell has some local flavor in 6.0 freshman guard Darryl Shazier (2.6 ppg/ 1.1 rpg), the Peninsula District Player of the Year from Menchville High School in Newport News, Va.

Bucknell has played two CAA teams this year, losing to Drexel, 65-53 back on Dec. 22 in Philadelphia, and defeating Towson, 71-57 back on Nov. 14 in Towson, MD. ODU and Bucknell have met only once before. The Monarchs defeated the Bison, 88-76 in the 1978-79 Kiwanis ODU Classic at the Norfolk Scope.

In previous Bracketbuster games, ODU is 2-0, defeating Toledo, 73-70 in Ohio last year, Marist, 84-71 in 2006at ODU,
