FAIRFAX, Va. - It wasn't a pretty second half, but the No. 13/14 Old Dominion Lady Monarchs continued its win streak with a 71-61 victory over George Mason at the Patriot Center on Thursday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.

Old Dominion, which held a 39-20 lead at halftime, was outscored by George Mason, 41-32, in the second half. The Patriots held the Lady Monarchs without a field goal over the final 5:16, with Old Dominion getting four points from the free throw line in the final 43 seconds of the game for the final margin.

The Lady Monarchs had as much as a 22-point edge with 5:16 left, but the Patriots, behind a blistering 61.5 field goal percentage (16-of-26), closed the gap to single digits. The Patriots' 22-point deficit was reduced to just nine points when George Mason produced a 14-0 run, which was only halted by Old Dominion's free throws in the final seconds of the game. The Lady Monarchs were clinging to a 67-59 with :48 left on the clock. Junior Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) went 4-of-7 from the line to stop the drought.

Old Dominion was led by seniors Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) and T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) with 14 points apiece. Pym, who tied her career-high with her 14 points, led the Lady Monarch rebounding effort with nine board. Green added in 12, while junior Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.) contributed 11.

Walters cracked the top 10 Old Dominion junior assist list. With six dishes against the Patriots, Walters moved right into seventh place on the list with 107 assists to her name in the 2007-08 season.

George Mason's Lateisha Wade led all scorers with 18-points. She also hauled in 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Jessica Smith poured in all her 12 points in the second half, and Casey Quigley came off the bench to net 11.
 

 

The Lady Monarchs improved to 19-3 overall and 10-0 in the CAA. In terms of streaks, Old Dominion won its 13th straight contest and last 22nd meetings with CAA opponents. The Patriots meanwhile drop its third straight game, falling to 8-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference.

The No. 13/14 Old Dominion women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, February 10th against William & Mary in the fifth annual "Hoops for a Cure" game. The Lady Monarchs are encouraged fans to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and Susan G. Komen Foundation and "PINK OUT" the Constant Center. The Lady Monarchs are also looking to "PACK THE HOUSE". "PACK THE HOUSE" is a national competition where NCAA member schools compete with their conference rivals to set attendance records, win great prizes, and grow the sport of Women's Basketball. Bring your friends as Old Dominion looks to record its highest attendance of the 2007-08 to date.
