Feb. 18, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball has reached the top ten. With a 22-3 overall record, 13-0 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), a nation-leading 21-game home streak, 16 straight wins dating back to December, and the privilege of playing some of the top talent at the Division I level, the Associated Press has ranked the Lady Monarchs at No. 10 in this week's poll.

It is the highest ranking for the Lady Monarchs this season since cracking the AP's Top 25 back on December 3rd in the fourth week of the season. The last time Old Dominion cracked the AP's Top Ten list was at the end of the 1998-99 season when the Lady Monarchs finished at No. 5.

The Lady Monarchs are winners in their last 16 contests and in 19 of their last 20 games with a squad comprised of three seniors, four juniors, a sophomore, and five freshmen. Senior T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) leads the team at 14.0 points per game and is ranked 16th on the all-time ODU scoring leaders list. With her name already etched in the ODU record books for her three-point shooting ability, the senior guard has her sights on becoming the CAA all-time leading three-point shooter needing only seven more shots from downtown to set the record. Fellow classmate Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) continues to lead the squad in rebounding at 7.6 boards per game and is coming off the third double-double of her career with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Towson Sunday.

The No. 10 Old Dominion women's basketball team returns to action at Virginia Commonwealth on Thursday, February 21st. The Lady Monarchs' next home game is against Drexel on Sunday, February 24th. Both the Rams and Dragons are tied for third in the CAA standings.
