Pacific Golfer TJ Bordeaux Invited to British Amateur

April 4, 2008

Stockton, California - Freshman T.J. Bordeaux has received an invitation to play in the annual British Amateur Championship this summer in the United Kingdom. The Amateur Championship, from June 16 to the 21st, will be held at The Westin Turnberry Resort in Scotland and has featured such past champions as Bobby Jones, Sergio Garcia and Jose-Maria Olazabal.

Bordeaux was invited to play in the event after winning the Oregon Duck Classic two weeks ago in Eugene. The Amateur Championship was founded in 1885 by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and for some time considered one of the Major championships alongside the US Amateur, the US Open and the British Open.

"I was shocked at first because that's the last tournament that you expect to be invited to," said Bordeaux. "It's a huge opportunity to get your name out there and compete not only nationally but worldwide."

The first part of the Championship consists of two rounds for all 288 players. The 64 lowest scores over the 36-holes then compete in a match play format. Each match consists of one round of 18-holes and the final 36-holes.

"I'll certainly need to get used to that type of golf; keeping the ball low and controlling trajectory," said Bordeaux. "To visit and be playing at the home of golf is something I never imagined before."
