Center Valley, Pa. - This February the Patriot League will stand out as a leader in support of women's athletics as it embarks on a month-long celebration of women in sports. All eight of the Patriot League's schools will hold a National Girl and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) event on their campus, while the Patriot League produced its annual Celebrating Women in Sports magazine and has updated its Celebrating Women in Sports webpage that can be found on www.PatriotLeague.com.
The 22nd annual celebration of NGWSD has been designated for Feb. 6, 2008 with the theme of "All In!". The Patriot League's eight member schools have each picked a sporting event during the month of February to hold their own celebration of NGWSD. Many of the NGWSD events will take place at women's basketball games, while Colgate is combing their women's basketball and women's ice hockey events for the celebration.
Some of the planned activities on campus include autograph sessions, meet and greet events with female student-athletes, halftime exhibition games, raffles, and giveaways. Each school is encouraged to invite young females to the game to promote the participation of women - of all ages - in sports. Some schools will have members of the Boys and Girls Club in attendance, while others will invite local sports teams and girl scout troops. For a full list of dates and activities of each school's NGWSD event use the link at the top of this page.
The Patriot League will leave its impression at each campus NGWSD event with t-shirts and the Celebrating Women in Sports magazine. The Patriot League has provided each school with t-shirts to give away that promote this year's NGWSD theme - "All In!". The Patriot League's annual Celebrating Women in Sports magazine will also be handed out on each campus.

The Celebrating Women in Sports magazine is produced by the Patriot League each year to promote and encourage participation in sport and to shed light on athletics as a possible career path. The magazine contains feature stories about student-athletes, coaches and administrators from the League. The 12-page, full color publication can be read in its entirety by using the link at the top of this page.
The Patriot League will continue to promote women in sports by posting the feature stories from its magazine on the Patriot League website twice a week throughout the month of February. Stories will be posted every Monday and Friday during the month and can be found on the main page under the Features Tab.
As an update to the launch of last year's Celebrating Women in Sports webpage on the Patriot League website, a few new items will appear on this year's edition of the page. As it did last year, the webpage contains a complete listing of NGWSD events at Patriot League schools, the Celebrating Women in Sports magazine, and pages dedicated to the Patriot League's female administrators, Patriot League Sports Sponsorship and Milestones. Updates to the page have been a link that lists the Patriot League's all-time female academic and athletic All-Americans, a space for the featured story of the week as mentioned above and an updated women in sports photo gallery.
About National Girl and Women in Sports Day
NGWSD is celebrated in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies and activities honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports.
NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Hyman died of Marfan's Syndrome in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports. NGWSD is jointly organized by the National Girls and Women in Sport Coalition. The Coalition combines the experience and resources of the six premiere girls- and women-serving organizations in the United States: Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, National Women's Law Center, the Women's Sports Foundation and the YWCA USA.
