Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship Preview

Feb. 21, 2008

For only the second time in its short history, Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse will play host to the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event will take place Friday, February 22 through Sunday, February 24.

On the men's side, Army will look to extend its streak of consecutive titles to three and overall titles to 13 this weekend. Leading the charge for the Black Knights will be senior Brandon Lewis, who has earned Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet honors at the past two championship meets. The Black Knights will also rely on the jumping ability of senior Steve Zhang (long jump, triple jump), as well as seniors John Mickowski and freshman Alfred McDaniel on the track. Providing some competition to the Black Knights this year will be Navy and Bucknell. Navy, who won the title in 2004 and 2005, will have the services of 2006 Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Meet Paul Harris. Harris has one of the fastest 800m times in the nation this year. For Bucknell, Kerry Boyle will look to gain some points for the home team in the 400m for the second-straight year.

Like Army, the Bucknell women have been leading the way in the Patriot League. Last season, the Bison won their sixth-straight and 11th overall Patriot League Championship. The 2007 Outstanding Rookie of the Meet, Olivia Pruszko of Holy Cross, is the lone returning major award winner from a year ago.

An astonishing 14 Patriot League Championship Meet records fell at the 2007 event, with nine of those 14 coming on the men's side. Bucknell's Kerry Boyle (400m), Matt Forys (3,000m) and Kyle Anthony (triple jump), Navy's Paul Harris (500m) and Darryl Hunter (shot put) and American's Dustin Emrani (800m) were just some of the individuals who set meet records.
