The Patriot League outdoor track and field world will converge on Annapolis, Md. this weekend for the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event will start on Friday, May 2 and continue through the afternoon of Saturday, May 3 at Navy's Ingram Field. Last year's champions, the Army men and the Bucknell women, will look to add to their team championship streaks at this year's meet.

Army will look to win their 17th-consecutive title on the men's side, and their eighth-overall title on the women's side. The men are once again led by senior Brandon Lewis, who has already posted a provisional-qualifying mark in the Decathlon for this year's NCAA championships. Lewis is joined by NCAA Regional qualifiers John Mickowski (1,500m), Jon Anderson (5,000m), Alfred McDaniel (long jump), Domonick Sylve (110m HH) and Joseph Nemeth (shot put). The Army men have won every Patriot League outdoor track and field championship since 1992. The Army women will be led by last year's rookie of the meet Ebony Thomas, as well as NCAA Regional qualifiers Geryah White (shot put) and Brittany Greene (javelin). Army's women won seven-consecutive titles from 1992-98.

The Bucknell women have had a firm grasp on the championship trophy in recent years, winning the Patriot League Championship Meet eight out of the last nine years. Bucknell will be led by a group of All-Patriot League selections from a season ago including Erin Cranmer-Hart, Victoria Gilbert and Amy Mantush. A pair of javelin throwers, Beverly Rogers and Laura Rycek, has already qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet with marks posted this season as well. The men will be led by returning All-League selections Kevin MacLeod and David Mante. The Bison are the only men's team in Patriot League history, other than Army, to win the outdoor track and field championship, doing so in 1991.

American will look to once again dominate the distance events at the '08 meet. Senior Steve Hallinan (1,500m) and Brendan Fennell (5,000m) and junior Carlos Jamieson (1,500m and 5,000m) have each posted NCAA Regional qualifying marks in their respective events. The Eagles will look to defend Patriot League titles in the 800m, 1,500m and 4x800m races at this year's meet. The women are led by seniors Kate Lilley and Cathleen Ford, who will also compete in the mid-distance and distance races for AU.

The Colgate Raiders come into this year's meet led by senior sprinter Thomas Dilworth and sophomore distance runner Lyle Tolli. Tolli was named the Outstanding Runner of the Meet at the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. The women are paced by junior sprinter Curran Knox, who was named rookie of the meet at the 2006 outdoor meet.

Senior Thomas Harrison and junior Sebastian Fidelus will lead the charge for the Holy Cross men at this year's championship meet. Senior Nathaniel Couture placed second in the javelin throw at last year's championship meet. The women will be led by sophomore Olivia Pruszko, who competes in the mid-distance events for the Crusaders.

The Lafayette women are primed for a showdown with the Bucknell women at this year's championship meet following a strong regular season. Senior Ashley Harbin (hammer) and freshman Janica Austin (110m HH) have both qualified for the NCAA Regional meet at the end of the month. Harbin, Osasumwen Izevbigie (shot put) and Kristen Kalinowski (heptathlon) will all attempt to defend their titles from last year's championship. The Lafayette men will be led by senior Alex Wechsler and sophomore transfer Brant Hammer. Sophomore Sifiso Takirambudde will look to improve on last year's second-place finish in the 110m HH.

The Mountain Hawks of Lehigh will be led by sophomore Nick Ray, who is coming off of a second-place finish at last year's meet. Fellow sophomore Khalil Uqdah will also look to make an impact in the pole vault and sprints. The women are led by juniors Sarah Serwo and Shannon Alejandro, who teamed with Jillian Randolph and Kimberly Scotto for a second-place finish in the 4x800m relay at last year's meet.

The Navy men will look to make it a clean sweep of the Patriot League Track and Field Championships at this year's meet after winning the indoor title in February. The Mids will welcome back 2007 Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet Paul Harris, along with NCAA Regional qualifiers Darryl Hunter (shot put and discus), Mark Van Orden (hammer), Dante Marshall (triple jump), Andre Barber (discus), Ronald Belany (long jump), Bo Lawson (javelin), Devan Clark (javelin) and John Olsen (3,000m steeplechase). The Navy women will have the services of senior Jacqui Charnigo, as well as 2007 Second-Team All-Patriot League selections Michelle Bostic, Maureen Dooley, Colleen Conley and Liz Wrona.
