Q and A with Army's Jarell Brown

April 10, 2008

From The Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer

The lowdown: Former St. Peter Chanel High standout averaged 18.2 points as a senior guard this season for Army. His 1,444 points rank eighth on the career list at Army. He set the single-season mark with 101 3-pointers. The Black Knights finished 14-16 overall and 6-8 in the Patriot League.

Was attending Army the right choice? "It worked out pretty good. The time flew by. The biggest thing was getting organized and maturing. I wouldn't trade it in."

What was the toughest part? "The first semester. Waking up at 6 a.m. You have a heavy school load and you have to learn to use your time wisely."

Were you satisfied with your playing career? "The Patriot League was a solid league, and it got better and better. The first year was a transition to Division I basketball. If you work hard and apply yourself, it will pay off."

What are your plans after graduation? "I'll be commissioned as a second lieutenant. For the first year, I'll be a graduate assistant with the basketball program. Then I'm assigned to the Judge Adjutant branch. I'll be working with the processing in the army."

Are you coming home? "I've only been home for four days the past year. But I'll be back in Cleveland for 30 days in June before I have to report back for duty."
