By this time next month, Erich Schoen will be a surface warfare officer stationed on a ship out of Jacksonville, Fla.
This weekend, however, Schoen will be toting his golf bag around Bremerton's Gold Mountain Golf Club for the 2008 NCAA West Regional golf tournament.
The University of Washington is hosting the three-day event, which tees off this morning on Gold Mountain's majestic Olympic Course. But the Huskies may have to share home-team status.
That's because Navy's in town, and coach Pat Owen anticipates a fair amount of gallery members pulling for his group of Midshipmen, led by Schoen and fellow Naval Academy senior Chris Renninger.
"I think this is going to be our best crowd ever," Owen said.
The coach isn't being overly optimistic, not with Bremerton expected to be bustling with military personnel this weekend for Saturday's Armed Forces Day celebration.
