Center Valley, Pa. - Bucknell claimed eight first-place votes and 32 overall points to finish first in the 2008 Patriot League Rowing Preseason Poll. Navy garnered the other two first-place votes and earned 25 points for second in the poll. Colgate (19 points), Lehigh (14) and Holy Cross (10) round out the poll. The poll is voted on by head coaches and sports information directors, who can not vote for their own team.
Bucknell stands as a two-time defending Patriot League champion and brings back CRCA All-American Katherine Brewster-Duffy. Brewster-Duffy was an All-Patriot League selection a year ago and is joined by returning All-Patriot League team members Jeweliet Yost and Whittney Henry. Yost and Henry were named CRCA All-Region last year.
Navy is the only other Patriot League team to be crowned champion, winning the inaugural title in 2005. The Mids will welcome back one of their three All-Patriot League performers from 2007 - senior Fiona McFarland. Sophomore Kristin Lyles is also back for Navy, after garnering CRCA All-Regional honors last year.
Sophomore Vicky Hulit returns as Colgate's only All-Patriot League selection from last season, while both Holy Cross and Lehigh graduated their All-Patriot League picks.
The 2008 Patriot League Rowing Championship will take place Sunday, April 27 on the Cooper River in Camden County, N.J. It will be run in conjunction with The William & Sarah Cooper Cup.
The Patriot League Championship is a full-field event. The championship consists of three races: Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight.
