BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh Director of Rowing Liz Meltzer has announced that the Lehigh Rowing program will take part in this year's Cleanup at Lehigh Landing on Saturday, April 19. The event will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 and run on the same day as Lehigh's annual River Cup, which is scheduled to run from 10:00 AM until approximately 3:00 PM. Both events will take place in Allentown at the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse. Along with the Lehigh Rowing program, other participating agencies in Saturday's event are the City of Allentown, City of Allentown Recycling and Solid Waste, Wildlands Conservancy, and the Allentown Economic Development Corporation.
In addition to beautifying the riverbank, attendees at the event will learn from Wildlands Conservancy River Guides who will educate them on the history of the river, its wildlife and ways to protect it. Cleanup volunteers will get a chance to see a breathtaking view of the city while enjoying a canoe ride down the river.
Volunteers are still needed for the clean up. Anyone interested in participating should phone City Special Events Manager Tara Prelovsky at 610-437-7530. Volunteers will meet-up at George "Buck" Boyle Park at Pump Place and Front streets the morning of April 19.
New this year, Meltzer has added Alumni events to the River Cup schedule with a women's eight and men's eight race slated for early afternoon. For more information on attending the River Cup or to join one of the alumni boats, please contact Liz Meltzer at 610-758-4511 or ebm205@lehigh.edu.
