Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH--The Panthers swept three events, as the women's swimming and diving team topped Clarion (201-76), Denison (193-89) and Duquesne (186-86) on Alumni Day in Pitt's 2007-08 home finale at Trees Pool. Earning the first sweep in swimming events were junior Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) and freshmen Katie Cutrell (Ligonier, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and Sarah Looney (Sugar Hill, Ga./North Gwinnett), respectively in the 500 free. Next, sophomore Allie Horvath (Oxford, Ohio/Badin) led the Panthers in the 200 back, as sophomore Ryann Kishbaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and junior Laura Rosenberg (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) trailed for the sweep. Additionally, the diving corps of sophomore Margo Ekstrom (Erie, Pa./McDowell), freshman Mallory Mullady (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and junior Sabrina Jennings (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) provided a sweep on the 1M board. Earlier in the meet, Ekstrom and Mullady finished first and second in the 3M. Junior Stacie Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) claimed two individual events, winning the 50 free (23.76) and 100 free (51.14).
The 200 medley relay team of Kishbaugh, Seiffert senior Brittany Stevens (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill/Florida State) and senior Kelly O'Hara (Voorhees, N.J./Timber Creek) won with a time of 1:46.92. Kishbaugh later won the 100 back, while Stevens touched first in the 200 fly. Cutrell placed first in the 1000 free at 10:27.94, while Rosenberg took second. Freshman Cookie McIntyre (York, Pa./West York Area) edged out Denison's Ksenia Golovkina for first in the 100 breast at 1:05.14. Junior Agnes Mago (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos/Radford) earned the Panthers final individual win the 100 fly. She later anchored the 400 free relay team that closed out the day with a first-place finish. The team included Safritt, sophomore Megan Sculley (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson/William and Mary) and freshman Kristen McMullan (West Chester, Pa./Henderson). The Panthers return to action on Feb. 20, as they look to earn the Big East title at the conference meet in Long Island, N.Y. Team Scores |
