Mago Sets School Record In Finals

EAST MEADOW, N.Y.-- Junior Agnes Mago set a school record in the 200 fly, as the women's swimming and diving team finished fourth with 426 points at the Big East Swimming and Diving Championships at Nassau County Aquatics Center this evening. With a higher finish than last year, Mago (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos/Radford) placed second in the finals of the 200 fly at 2:00.16. Mago's time was nearly two second faster than her prelim mark and shattered the previous record of 2:01.38 by Nicole Ebert in 2003. Swimming alongside Mago in the 200 fly, freshman Cookie McIntrye (York, Pa./West York Area) also swam faster in the finals of the 200 fly with a fourth-place finish of 2:02.97. Earlier, in the finals of the 200 breast McIntyre was edged out on the reach and tied for seventh at 2:18.11. Placing in the finals of the 100 free, sophomore Lisa McDonnell (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) earned an eighth-place finish at 52.05. Improving from her prelims finish, junior Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) led from start to finish in the consolation heat of the 200 breast for a ninth overall finish at 2:18.78. Additionally, freshman Laura Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton) swam a 2:20.31 for a 13th-place finish in the 200 breast. Also improving from the prelims, freshman Kristen McMullan (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) recorded a 10th-place finish in the 100 free. Swimming alongside McMullan, senior Kelly O'Hara (Voorhees, N.J./Timber Creek) clocked in at 52.37 for 15th.
Placing 10th, senior Brittany Stevens (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill/Florida State) turned in a personal-best 2:03.78 in the consolation heat of the 200 fly. Freshman Katie Cutrell (Ligonier, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) opened the evening session with a 13th-place performance in the 1650 free at 17:12.35. Lastly, the 400 free team of Mago, McDonnell, senior Stacie Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and McMullan finished the meet with a fourth-place finish at 3:25.80 Scores |
