PITT-WEST VIRGINIA POST-GAME NOTES

 

*Pitt dropped to 21-9 overall and 9-8 in the Big East. Pitt is now in seventh place the conference. Pitt has one more regular season contests remaining: vs. DePaul at home (March 9).

 

*The DePaul game on Sunday, March 9 marks Pitt's senior day as Keith Benjamin, Mike Cook, Maurice Polen and Ronald Ramon will be honored. The foursome has compiled a 95-34 four-year record at Pitt.

 

*Pitt has nine Big East wins and needs one more regular season Big East win to reach 10 league wins for the seventh consecutive season. Pitt is the only team in the Big East to win 20-overall and 10 regular season games in each of the last seven seasons.


 

 

 

*Pitt and West Virginia split their two meetings on the season. Pitt dropped to 82-93 all-time in the 175-game series vs. West Virginia. Pitt dropped to 22-59 in games played in Morgantown. It had previously won four of the last six meetings in Morgantown.

 

*Pitt fell to 7-23 all-time at WVU Coliseum.

 

*The 14-point point margin of loss was Pitt's second largest Big East loss under Jamie Dixon. Pitt dropped a game at Marquette by 18 points earlier in the year. Since Jamie Dixon became head coach, only nine of his 39 losses have come by more than 10 points. Amazingly, Dixon has dropped 18 of his 39 games by four points or less. Dixon owns a 126-39 all-time record.

 

*Pitt dropped to 3-6 this season in Big East road games. It also dropped to 13-10 over the last two seasons in Big East road games. Under Jamie Dixon, Pitt is 23-18 in Big East regular season road games.

 

*Levance Fields led Pitt and finished the game with 15 points. It was Fields' highest scoring outing since he returned to action on Feb. 15 at Marquette. He has reached double figure scoring in three of Pitt's six games since his return.

 

*With his 13 points, Sam Young reached double figure scoring for the 29th time in 30 games this year. He has now scored over 10 points in 37 of his last 41 games played.

 

*With his 10 points, DeJuan Blair reached double figure scoring for the 21st time in 30 games this year.

 

*Pitt was outrebounded for the 10th time this season. It fell to 2-8 when outrebounded.

 

*With its 76 points, West Virginia became the ninth team to score more than 70 points vs. Pitt this season. Since Jamie Dixon became head coach, only 32 of his 165 opponents have scored over 70 points vs. Pitt.

 

*Pitt's 23 personal fouls tied a season-high. The Panthers also were whistled for 23 fouls against Duke on Dec. 20, 2007.

 

*The game saw a combined total of 45 personal fouls. That total marked the second most fouls that Pitt has seen in a game. Pitt and Duke combined for 47 personal fouls on Dec. 20, 2007.

 

*West Virginia's Joe Alexander scored a Pitt opponent high 32 points on the evening. Dayton's Brian Roberts scored the previous high of 31 points on Dec. 29, 2007.
