Zach Sheaffer, the No. 14-ranked heavyweight in the nation, has been named as the Eastern Wrestling League's Wrestler of the Week for his performance over the weekend at West Virginia, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Sheaffer (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) helped Pitt slide by the Mountaineers and remain a perfect 4-0 in league action on Friday when he claimed victory over No. 16-ranked Dustin Rogers.

The Panthers found themselves trailing in the match by a count of 17-15 when Sheaffer stepped to the mat for the final bout of the evening. The 2005 EWL Champion, Sheaffer used a takedown and three back points to build a sizable lead in the first period and went on to take the duel by a score of 9-3.

Sheaffer now boasts 29 wins this season, the most on the team, and hopes to continue his stellar redshirt junior season when the Panthers host North Carolina at Fitzgerald Field House this Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m.
