Pitt Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 to #15 West Virginia
Sept. 21, 2007
"West Virginia is a good team," Pitt Head Coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "We were punished for our mistakes, but our girls battled it out and fought to come back in the second half. I give West Virginia a lot of credit, but you can't take anything away from us. We did well and fought hard."
West Virginia's Ashley Banks scored two of the Mountaineers' three goals. In the 35th minute, Banks was assisted by Carolyn Blank and in the 53rd minute, she was assisted by Deana Everrett. Pitt's lone goal came in the 78th minute when Laura Berbert (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) crossed the ball over to Liz Carroll (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell). Carroll headed the ball into the back of the net to put Pitt on the scoreboard. The Mountaineers' final goal came from Amanda Cicchini in the 87th minute. Cicchini headed the ball into the goal from a crossing pass. Pitt returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Ohio at 1 p.m. at Founders Field. --30-- |
