HARRISONBURG, Va.--Pitt's softball team loses lead in the seventh and fall 6-5 to Akron in the first game of the James Madison Tournament, this morning at the JMU Complex. The Panther slip to 10-9 on the year, while the Zips improve to 4-11.

Pitt took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning off three hits and an Akron error.

Scoring began with a sacrifice fly from freshman Reba Tutt (Culpeper, Va./Highland), as freshman Alicia Broudy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) scored on the play. Next, freshman Ashley Amistade (Washington, Pa./Trinity) tallied a two RBI double, scoring senior Rebecca Stottlemyer (Charleroi, Pa./Home schooled) and freshman Megan Livesey (Livingston, N.J./The Montclair Kimberly Academy) on the play.

Amistade then scored the final run on a throwing error, after she stole third base a few pitches earlier.

Earlier in the third inning, Pitt tied it at 1-1 after junior Samantha Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) hit a fly ball to the outfield that allowed Tutt to score from third. Tutt was 2-for-2 at the plate and was walked in earlier in that inning.

Card was 2-for-3 with one RBI in the game, while Amistade was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Akron struck first with a run off two hits in the opening inning. Pitt then held the Zips scoreless till the seventh, where they rallied five runs off three hits and two Panther errors.

 

 

Junior Kaitlyn Schuster (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) recorded the loss, giving up two hits and two earned runs.

Stottlemyer recorded her eighth start of the season in the game, while Tutt was 2-for-2 with a stolen base, a RBI and a run.
