Card Records Five RBI Against JMU
March 15, 2008
HARRISONBURG, Va.--Junior Samantha Card recorded five RBI on the day, as the University of Pittsburgh softball team earned a 13-2 victory over James Madison in their fourth game of the James Madison Tournament at JMU Complex. Pitt improved to 11-10, while the Dukes fell to 10-11 in the contest. Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) finished the game with five RBI, tying Lisa McGregor (2006, Villanova) and Jacki Haar (2000, South Carolina State) for the second-best performance in a single game. Her first two RBI were posted in the first inning, as senior Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and freshman Ashley Amistade (Washington, Pa./Trinity) touched home plate off a single up the middle from Card. Later in the third inning, senior Mary Hecker (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) doubled to right center, scoring Dignon and Amistade again. Freshman Reba Tutt (Culpeper, Va./Highland) also scored in the inning after Dignon singled. Next, the Panthers tallied six runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Three of those runs came off a two-out double from Card with bases loaded. Before Card's second hit of the game, Pitt scored three runs after two Panthers were walked and another was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced. Hecker recorded the other hit in the inning and scored the eighth Pitt run of the game.
Sophomore Kayla Zinger (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) improved to 4-4 with the win, as she threw a two-hitter in five innings of action. JMU answered with their first run in the fourth inning off a double. The Dukes then scored again in the bottom of the fifth with a run off one hit and one Pitt error. The Panthers await the announcement of their final opponent in the James Madison Tournament. |
