Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The University of Pittsburgh softball team scores first but drops an 11-4 decision in its first game of a doubleheader against Louisville.

The Panthers were the first to score, recording four runs in the opening inning off two hits and four Cardinal errors.

Action began when freshman Reba Tutt (Culpeper, Va./Highland) scored her 26th run of the season, after a throwing error on a single from senior Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin).

Junior Samantha Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) and Dignon each stole a base a few plays later, which resulted in Dignon scoring the second run of the game. Several plays later, Card stole home while senior Mary Hecker (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) took second base.

The same play happened later, as sophomore Megan Livesey (Livingston, N.J./The Montclair Kimberly Academy) stole second base after being walked and Hecker stole home for the fourth Panther run of the game.

In the game, Pitt stole seven bases and boasts 61 steals on the season.

However, after that outpour in the first inning Louisville would hold Pitt scoreless the rest of the game, while putting up 11 runs of their own.

Freshman Cory Berliner (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) fell to 12-8 on the mound, giving up 11 runs off 12 hits in her six innings of work.

Dignon went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run in the contest.
