MARSHALL, W.Va.--Senior Carlie Smith and junior Kristy Borza record their 115th career victories, as Pitt's women's tennis team fell short against Big East foe Cincinnati, 4-3, on Sunday. The Panthers slipped to 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in the conference.

The match opened on a high note, as Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and freshman Elizabeth Adams (Reading, Pa./Wilson (West Lawn, Pa.) defeated Cincinnati's Jenn Keiher and Jenny Rowen, 8-5.

Additionally, Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and senior Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) combined in No. 3 double, winning 8-3 and lifting Pitt to the doubles point.

From the doubles matches, Borza and Friedman also garnered victories in singles action. With her two wins on the day, Borza upped her career victories record to 115, which ties Smith's 115 total for fifth overall on the all-time wins list. Borza remains the school-record holder in singles with 68 victories.

Sophomore Sabrina Visram (Windermere, Fla./Lake Highland Prep.), Adams and Smith all showed strong efforts in singles, after each forced their matches to three sets. However, each Panther was narrowly defeated.

Action resumes on Saturday, Feb. 23, when the Panthers face George Mason at Club 4 Life at 5 p.m.
